Fisheries Management

Fishermen on the lake
Little River Plantation would like to announce its new partnership with the experts at Southeastern Pond Management, Auburn, AL. Their team of Fisheries Biologists are conducting extensive and detailed Fisheries Management Programs here on our many diverse bodies of water. Kedric W. Nutt; Senior Fisheries Biologist, is in charge of assessing the needs of the many ponds and lakes and coordinates the necessary improvements.

With so many lakes on the property it requires constant monitoring to achieve the high level of success we strive for. This is why the pros provide many services to achieve our high quality management goals. Fish stocking is conducted annually on many of the lakes to sustain high amounts of forage reaching the bass. Weed control, is handled thru both mechanical and environmental techniques, such as the introduction of grass carp in areas requiring this specialized approach. Kedric’s team along with our in-house fisheries department are also employing habitat and structural manipulation, as well as electro-fishing, fertilization, and the year-round maintenance of nursery ponds. As well we have officially partnered with ABAC Forestry and Wildlife and have enabled their professors to create advances in their curriculum which take place on our property in areas such as fisheries technology as well as quail habitat management. This valuable partnership will enable the collegiate underclassmen whom assist in many of the extensive wildlife plans taking place on our property, to have a clear understanding and hands-on experience necessary to help ensure Georgian’s wildlife resources are well taken care of in the future.

These important management techniques have been implemented to ensure our guests that every step has been taken to make their time here a quality fishing experience. Our goal is to continually improve on what nature has provided us here at Little River Plantation and share it with others.
